Electromagnetic theory is the study of electric and magnetic fields and signals in space and time. It is fundamental to the applications of electric machines, wireless communications, opto-electronics, high speed circuit design, etc.. The course will start with an introduction of transmission line theory and wave phenomenon. Static electrostatic and magnetic fields in space are then discussed. The concept of “fields” (spatial distribution of physical quantities) and important mathematic tools are emphasized. Time-varying fields and Maxwell’s equations are introduced briefly at the end of the semester. Part I Transmission lines and wave propagation (~4 weeks, Ch. 9) Part II Vector analysis (~ 3 weeks, Ch. 2) Part II Electrostatics (~ 4 weeks, Ch. 3, 4, 5) Part III Magnetostatics (~ 4 weeks, Ch. 6)

作業部份: Two homework assignments will be given before each exam but will not be graded. Solutions will not be posted on the web page. If you need the solution, do the homework and hand in in person. 評量部份: homework 0%, mid-term exam (x2) 66.66%, final exam 33.33%
