In this course we will first focus on laser physics. We will develop the classical and quantum description of lasers. We will then introduce mode-locked lasers, which can produce ultrafast pulses. Finally, we show how to control and characterize ultrafast pulses. Terahertz generation and detection will also be covered.
Prerequisite course: Optoelectronics (I). Students are assumed to have the basic knowledge of laser and electromagnetism. Student who haven’t taken Optoelectronics (I) should consult the instructor before enrolling the course.
