課程概述與目標: 這是傅柯 1982年1月6日至3月24日共計24個單元課堂演講錄音整理出來精心編輯約500頁出版的書。開放讓所上有興趣的同學與老師們共同參與相互增益。簡單介紹一下這部「主體的詮釋學」演講的閱讀旨趣: 首個脈絡是放在傅柯自己成書著作的「同時期」背景,通常被稱為性史的三部著作: La Volenté de Savoir [1976] 英譯 The History of Sexuality (1978) L’Usage des Plaisirs [1984] 英譯The Use of Pleasure (1985) Le Souci de Soi [1984] 英譯The Care of the Self (1986) 另一本 Technologies of the Self (1988)是1982年秋季傅柯在University of Vermont同名開設的Seminar,由兩篇傅柯講稿與六位參與Seminar的同仁撰寫的6篇論文集結出書。內容跟同年春季在法蘭西學院的演講接近但較節略。 還有,違反傅柯遺願 “No Posthumous Publications”,而由Frédéric Gros編輯出版號稱性史第四部的:Histoire de la sexualité 4: Les aveux de la chair [2018],英譯Confessions of the Flesh (2021) 今年2月才剛出爐。 另個脈絡是放在傅柯在法蘭西學院的演講系列裡。 之前兩年的演講: On the Government of the Living: Lectures at the Collège de France, 1979-1980 傅柯讀基督教早期教父 Cassian, Augustine, Turtullian 探討經由教義問答、受洗、悔罪苦修等制度而形成的基督教真理體制,這應也是剛出爐「性史第四部:肉身的認罪(告解)」的主要內容。 Subjectivity and Truth: Lectures at the Collège de France, 1980-1981 傅柯的閱讀跨度從一世紀的Plutarch 到十六世紀的 Saint Francis of Sales,探討了從古代希臘羅馬到基督教的幾種性倫理的轉型,包括了婚姻制度、夫妻快樂之道、情慾原理等主題,部分已發表在性史的第二、三部(The Use of Pleasure; The Care of the Self) 之後兩年的演講: The Government of Self and Others: Lectures at the Collège de France, 1982-1983 The Courage of Truth: Lectures at the Collège de France 1983-1984 傅柯探討了西元前5-4世紀希臘思想家們思辨在雅典民主之下公民們實踐「說真話」(Parrhesia) 的政治風險與所需的勇氣,以及稍後犬儒(Cynics)以不畏醜名的行為實踐「說真話」的方式,並提示了犬儒與早期基督教苦修以及近代歐洲前衛藝術政治的淵源。 綜觀傅柯後期(1976-1984) 發表的問題意識與研讀的文獻,在時代上是逆向的:從性史第一部裡 “We Other Victorians”(我們另種維多利亞時代的人),到中世紀基督教真理體制,自1982年春季「主體的詮釋學」開始的最後三年則沈浸在古代希臘羅馬的主體倫理學。傅柯自己多次表達他這研究旨趣的轉向,說他的焦點不再是規訓、權力、國家,而是主體形成的自我技藝。但我們不會忽略他晚期在主體倫理學的問題意識有著與當代政治與哲學議題上相干的重要意義。
