Freshman English II is an integrated 4-skill (listening, speaking, reading, & writing) language curriculum with a focus on reading and writing. This course will address reading and paragraph writing while supporting the communicative skills addressed in the first semester. In this course, students will: Develop critical reading skills, Engage in reflection on readings, Apply insights gained from readings, Orally paraphrase and summarize texts, and reflect on the texts in oral discussion, Write complete paragraphs with topic sentences, relevant supporting details, transition words, and concluding sentences, Continue to develop listening and speaking skills.

*** Students who do not show up during the first class will no longer be in this class unless a valid leave is presented! ***Students should participate in the class actively and ask the teacher in person if he or she has trouble understanding the teacher's written instructions. If students skip the class more than 5 times without any proper reason, he or she will receive 0 points on participation and attendance. ***No late assignments will be accepted as students should be aware of the deadlines set by the teacher. Textbook readings might be assigned to students to read at home first.
Attendance: 10% Group discussion on assigned textbook readings + individual participation bonus (responding to the instructor’s questions for class discussion): 10% Assigned textbook reading written assignments: 5% Midterm: 20% Final exam: 20% Required writing assignments: 10% (2 paragraph assignments, a minimum of 200 words each) Language enhancement activities: 15%: including GEPT related learning activities (5%): one in class and 2 online or in the lab; and self-study stamps in VOD passport: 5 stamps (10%). Presentation (either individual presentation or group presentation on related textbook topic): 10 % (The presentation can be changed to online activity based on the students' own preference of sharing their presentations in either the real classroom or online.
