This course is designed to help non-English major students develop English sentence structure and paragraph-level academic writing skills. A variety of rhetorical skills and grammatical supports is presented while all reading passages, exercises, and writing tasks feature current and general academic topics. The teacher's instruction includes familiarizing students with sentence structures, paragraph organizations, and evaluating their writings. The students need to practice the rhetorical skills, analyze the sample readings, and are encouraged to communicate their ideas in group brainstorming. The assignments help them master the essential grammar necessary for well-formed sentences and for specific paragraph organizations. Each student is recommended to book at least ONE online writing consultation at NYCU Language Self-study Center. For detail, please refer to the Language Self-study Center at NYCU (NCTU) Library 3F. (https://booking.nctu.edu.tw/)

The medication receipt with correct stamp of date by accredited hospitals can be seen as a valid proof. If you are absent for more than 3 lessons without advance notice, you will fail the course. Absence from a class is no excuse for not knowing the assignment and what has been discussed in class. It is the student's responsibility to ask the classmates or the instructor what has been covered in the class. 4. If you are caught cheating or plagiarizing on the assignments/exams, you will fail the exam and even the course. 5. There will be no make-up exam unless you have valid and official reasons for absence in advance. No late work (unless you have requested an extension and been given approval ahead of the deadline) **The assessment and course requirements are tentative.
