研究生英文:研究論文寫作

The purpose of this course is to help students at the graduate level write clearer and better organized research documents for professional settings. Although the major type of writing treated in this course is the experimental research paper, the information covered are relevant to writing theses, dissertations, conference papers, research proposals, and patent applications. Guided by the IMRaD format, the course will focus on the information and language conventions of major sections of a research paper, including Introduction [with Literature Review] (I), Method and Materials (M), Results and Discussion (RaD), and Abstract. By the end of the course, students can expect to be able to: (1) understand the vocabulary and grammar features of empirical research paper writing, (2) become familiar with the content and organization of a research paper, (3) read critically and analyze a variety of research documents, and (4) understand and practice the skills needed to write a research paper including planning, drafting, revising and editing. We will also discuss some aspects of research paper writing, such as planning your publication, editing a research manuscript & avoiding plagiarism, and responding to reviewers.

VERY IMPORTANT!! 1. Students who wish to take this course MUST attend the first day of class. Those who register but miss the first class will be dropped from the class. 2. It is preferred that students plan to write or revise a research paper or thesis during the semester. Students who do not have any kind of writing project for an empirical study should consult the instructor after the first meeting to set up alternative writing tasks for the semester.

(1) Attendance and Participation (10%): To succeed in this course, regular attendance is required. You are expected to participate actively in class discussions and activities. (2) Assignments (30%): Thirty percent of your semester grade will be based on a variety of assignments. As the semester progresses, you will find specific assignment guidelines on the university's NewE3 website (OR google classroom) to complete your assignments, and you will be expected to follow the format and guidelines required by each assignment. (3) Reading and Analysis Project (30%): You will analyze the structure and language of research documents in your research discipline with knowledge and skills learned from the course. Detailed instructions will be provided in class. (4) Writing Project (30%): You will write the Introduction part of your research paper with plenty of opportunities to receive feedback on earlier drafts.
