概述

Course organization: The course consists of a series of lectures, lab exercise sessions, and group project checkpoint presentation sessions. Lab exercises (in-class discussion) Lab exercises are performed in assigned groups. Attendance at all laboratory sessions is required. Lab exercise documents will be posted on the course website (NewE3) a week ahead of the lab session. After group discussion of the lab exercise, there will be an open discussion led by the course instructor or TA. If you cannot participate in a lab session, you need to submit your answers to the TA before that lab. Group project: The course will provide open access datasets of different studies. Choose one for your final project. To help you complete the final project successfully, there are 3 checkpoints presentation sessions. Every group should each prepare a presentation for every checkpoint. a) Checkpoint I: Prepare a 10-minute presentation about the project that your team is going to do. It includes: (Slide # limit: 3. Font size >=20) 1) Specific research question/hypothesis, population of interest, study design, the brief description of the data 2) Conceptual framework (X and Y of interest + confounders) 3) Important variables for the project: What are they? How are they assessed? b) Checkpoint II: Prepare a 10-minute presentation about the project that your team is going to do. It includes: 1) Specific research question/hypothesis, population of interest, study design, the brief description of the data 2) Table 1 3) Plan for the next steps c) Checkpoint III: Prepare a 15-minute presentation about the project that your team has done. It includes: 1) Specific research question/hypothesis, conceptual framework, study population (inclusion/exclusion criteria), study design, brief description of the data 2) Measurements, variable transformation, and analytical methods 3) The final results: Summarize what you found from the project d) Final written report The final written report is a team project consisting of the below content and sections describing the significance of your research question and the analysis of your chosen open access dataset: 1) Title and abstract 2) Brief introduction/background supporting the research question 3) Detailed methods and results 4) Tables and figures 5) Author contributions Limit the written report to within five (5) A4-size pages.

教學方式

Following the introductory epidemiology course, this course focuses more on epidemiologic data analysis and interpretation to expand students' understanding of epidemiological research practice. Objectives After successful completion, students are expected to: - Choose the appropriate approach to analyze data of different study designs - Understand and apply commonly-used statistical models in epidemiological research - Correctly present and interpret epidemiologic results
