This course aims at introducing various basic topics in communication systems for data, including modulation theory, spread spectrum, information theory, and coding theory. By the end of the semester, students should be able to: 1. Explain the basic operations for the physical layer of 3G/4G/5G cellular communication systems. 2. Apply basic statistical tools for analyzing communication systems. 3. Write computer program to implement techniques such as linear codes.
