概述

We will continue the essential practice for essay writing skills including brainstorming, drafting, editing and revising. Much practice is the only way to improve one’s writing skills; you will write a few essays on serious topics throughout the semester. The best way of learning is to teach others; you will work closely with your peers through sharing ideas and thoughts and providing your critical reviews of their writing. We will focus on issues regarding “languages” in general. Relevant readings and talks will be provided. As the writing skill does not improve alone without the support of other English skills, we will add two components to the course planning. First, we will review English grammar, in particular, those that are continuously found to be challenging even for the students at the advanced levels. Second, we will review TED talks regularly through which students could build balanced English skills (vocabulary, expressions, listening & speaking). The talks will be selected among those containing in-depth discussions on languages.
