Course Objective: Freshman English I is an integrated course designed to develop students’ four English skills (listening, speaking, reading, & writing) with an emphasis on speaking and listening. In this course, students will: Identify listening problems and develop listening strategies and skills, Gain confidence in speaking and improve speaking fluency, pronunciation, and conversation strategies, Develop general reading skills, including word skills and comprehension strategies, Develop writing fluency by giving students opportunities to articulate ideas in short writings of approximately 170-200 words. For example, students can respond to topics addressed in class through writing assignments that focus on content and expression of ideas, rather than the structure of the written English. Other practical examples could include emails, note-taking, letter writing or comments.

Attendance: 10% Midterm and final exams: 40% Required writing assignments: 5% (a passage of 170-200 words) Language enhancement activities: 15%, including GEPT related learning activities and self-study stamps in VOD passport. Others: Quizzes: 5% Activity participation, discussion and assignments: 5% One-day YouTuber Video: 10% Oral presentation: 10% (Topics will be given in advance and each student will give a 2-minute oral presentation )
