Freshman English I is an integrated course designed to develop students’ four English skills (listening, speaking, reading, & writing) with an emphasis on speaking and listening. In this course, students will 1. Identify listening problems and develop listening strategies and skills, 2. Gain confidence in speaking and improve speaking fluency, pronunciation, and conversation strategies, 3. Develop general reading skills, including word skills and comprehension strategies, 4. Develop writing fluency by writing a short passage in 170-200 words.
(Tentative) 1) Attendance & Class Participation 15% 2) GEPT Practice Tests (in-class, online) 10% 3) Assignments (listening or activity reports; language learning passport; GEPT self-study) 15% 4) Required Writing Passage (170-200 words) 5% 5) Group Project 15% 6) Mid-Term Exam 20% 7) Final Exam 20% Bonus: 耀真盃英語演講比賽 3-5%
