Upon completing this course, students will be able to: 1. Define epidemiology and understand its purpose 2. Describe measures of association and disease distribution 3. Identify and describe basic epidemiologic study designs 4. Recognize threats to epidemiologic study validity: confounding, information bias, and selection bias 5. Critically review and comment on published epidemiologic papers
Introduces principles and concepts of epidemiology, including measures of association and disease distribution, epidemiologic study designs, as well as biases in epidemiologic studies. Lab exercises will involve critically reviewing and discussing published epidemiologic papers.
Midterm assignment: 30% Final exam: 30% Class participation: 40%
