1. Logic/contents > English proficiency 2. Your career success will be determined largely by your ability to SPEAK (=presentation), your ability to WRITE, and the quality of your IDEAS, IN THAT ORDER. 3. The foundation of your presentation skills = how well you can think and write in an organized manner. 4. Since the quality of communication is a function of (KNOWLEDGE, PRACTICE, talent), in this course we focus on establishing the foundational KNOWLEDGE of academic writing & public speaking through intensive PRACTICE via writing on diverse topics, the goal is to: A. demystify academic writing by isolating its basic moves and representing them in the form of templates; B. provide students with a hands-on experience of structuring their essay/presentation through a Post-it workshop; D. lead students to develop the strategy, design and delivery of presentations.

1. [30%] Writing assignment (3 in total; 10 points each: intro 0.5% + end 0.5% + grammar 1% + clarity 2% + contents 3% + structure 3%) 2. [10%] Mid-term individual presentations (how to fix a problem in your life OR one of your term papers/presentations in previous terms) (intro 1% + end 1% + clarity 1% + slide design 2% + contents 2.5% + structure 2.5%) 3. [10%] Post-it workshop (You are responsible for bringing to the workshop 25 ideas related to your topic for discussion, 0.4% each) 4. [20%] Presentation of your term paper (intro 2% + end 2% + clarity 3% + slide design 3% + contents 5% + structure 5%) 5. [30%] Final term paper (intro 4% + end 4% + grammar 5% + clarity 5% + contents 6% + structure 6%)
