This course is an advanced version of the undergraduate course "Introduction to Operating System". Generally, the topics of this course remains the same as those of the undergraduate counterpart, but our subjects and discussions will be much deeper and require more contribution from students. For each topic, we will begin with basic knowledge as in the undergraduate OS, and then we will proceed to advanced topics, mostly from selected papers. We will also have some hands-on projects such as adding a kernel system call.

• process concept and CPU scheduling
• multiprocessor scheduling
• paging and virtual memory
• file system design
• advanced topics in file system designs: logging, journaling, COW
• I/O system and I/O scheduling
• non-volatile memory

There are no textbooks for this course. However, our lectures will be largely based on the materials from http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~remzi/OSTEP/
