The laser has been recognized as one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century and was invented in 1960. Over the past 60 years, lasers' impact on both basic science and materials chemistry has been beyond our expectations and imagination. For example, lasers have played a significant role in the precise analysis of molecular structures, detailed understanding of chemical reactions, highly sensitive and selective chemical analysis, and verification of the mysteries of quantum chemistry. In this lecture, the principles of lasers and their applications to basic chemistry and materials chemistry will be introduced, sometimes while confirming the fundamental knowledge of physical chemistry.
The course is designed for students who have knowledge of the introductory level of physical chemistry, organic chemistry, quantum chemistry, and photochemistry.
