「亞際社會的邊緣」是指每一個亞洲社會中被邊緣化的人群。我們要將這些邊緣化的狀態放置於地緣政治以及全球經濟脈絡下進行理解。在長期觀察亞際社會的當代狀況中,我們注意到排除性的邊界政治,造成了體制性的社會不平等與各地不同形式的邊緣群體,包括不平等公民、少數族群、原住民、性少數、外籍移工、難民等。這些邊緣化的社會群體,是在漫長的歷史過程、當前資本全球化以及新自由主義市場競爭之下,所逐漸構成。 這門課的設計有三個目的: 第一. 提供理論性思維,協助同學思考視覺性與治理技術的問題;從可見性問題,進一步探討情感的邊界政治、殖民的權力結構、認識論解殖以及空間公共化的議題; 第二. 從影像文本出發,思考當前社會不同邊緣群體的處境。「影像」(image)涉及不同感官的「心像」(mental image)—同時是視覺性的,也是聽覺的、觸覺的,更可能包括味覺的、嗅覺、空間感、溫度等綜合體。我們要針對不同文本中複雜的影像進行分析,思考影像如何揭露了社會內部系統性的排除心態,從歷史到當代的構成因素,並探討文本背後的物質性體制脈絡。我們將探索藝術、展覽、影像、媒體、電影、紀錄片、音樂、表演如何參與介入式的行動。 第三. 我們將根據同學的研究領域,一起討論特定影像的特殊性與分析方法。我們也將安排影像製作的工作坊與系列演講,進行實驗性的製作。有興趣的同學可以透過文字分析、影像論文、展覽論文、紀錄片等不同形式,進行藝術介入以及影像行動。 我歡迎有興趣參與課程計畫的同學和我聯繫,提出建議與提案,一起在這門課中探索,並且完成這個思考過程。請在寒假見讓我知道你們的預定研究計畫,以便我設計在課程進度中。 本學期規劃影像製作基礎工作坊: 1)Final Cut 2)Motion 3)Garageband 本學期規劃邀請演講: 1)March 30, 2022 鍾宜杰:政大廣播電視系兼任教授,紀實攝影專長,《報導者》工作坊 2)April 11, 2022. tammy ko Robinson: Hanyang University, Seoul, S Korea, 韓國漢陽大學傳播所 -- https://aaa.org.hk/en/programmes/programmes/residency-tammy-ko-robinson -- https://apjjf.org/-tammy_ko-Robinson --https://csw.ucla.edu/event/tammy-ko-robinson-korean-adoptees-deportation-and-statelessness/ 3) May 2, 2022. 林欣怡:陽明交大應藝所副教授 離散語碼:媒體作為筆的點狀書寫主體 4)May 9, 2022 講者:蔡華臻 陽明交大社文所助理教授 講題:酷兒性,朝不保夕,與空間性:重思佔領邏輯,由三部台灣酷兒電影談起 *** "Margins of the Inter-Asian Societies" indicate the marginalized groups in different societies. We need to situate these marginalized conditions in the geopolitical and the global economic context. Through our observations of current conditions of the Inter-Asian societies, we noticed the existence of different forms of social inequality and the marginalized groups through border politics, such as unequal citizenship, ethnic minorities, aboriginals, sexual/gender minority, migrant laborers, refugees. These marginalized social groups are formed through the long historical processes and constituted by contemporary neoliberal market competition of global capitalism. The objectives of this course are three-fold: 1. To provide theoretical frameworks to understand how the regime of visibility would lead to the technology of governmentality, the border politics of affect, the colonial matrix of power. We also want to think about various forms of epistemic decolonization and the practice of commoning the city. 2. The image refers to the synthetic mental images triggered through physical sensations, including visual, acoustic, tactile illustrations, and taste and smell. The objective of this course is also to understand how the textual images mark the lines of separation as a systemic exclusion. We want to investigate further whether artistic intervention and image action can serve as a perspective to tackle the conditions of the marginalized group. We will include participants' projects to explore further the theoretical perspectives discussed above. 3. Encourage students to practice such interventions through photo essays, video essays, curatorial essays, documentaries, etc. We will arrange workshops to experiment with image-making production, such as documentary, video essays, photo essays, and curatorial essays in your thinking of radical equality. I welcome all suggestions and proposals from interested students in designing this course. I expect doctoral students to submit a more extensive paper. Students can choose to develop a theoretical essay, a case study with theoretical analysis, or a video essay. The final term paper can be a continuation or an extension of the reading journal. Therefore, it is strongly encouraged that students start to conceive the topic of their final project from the beginning of this course. I also strongly encourage students to try video essays or photo essays. Titles and thesis statements should be submitted by the 10th week after individual conferences with the instructor. We will arrange oral presentations in the form of the colloquium in the 16th~18th weeks, and the final revised paper will be due two weeks after the oral presentation. | 第 11 週 | Invited lecture The Paradoxical Divide: LOVE BOAT: TAIWAN documentary film project by Valerie Soe, ICCS Visiting Scholar This presentation examines the creation of Valerie Soe’s documentary film Love Boat: Taiwan, which looks at one of the longest-running cultural immersion programs in the world. The program, which is well-known in the Taiwanese American community, is sponsored by the government of Taiwan and takes place every summer in Taipei. Despite its high-minded aspirations that include classes in Mandarin-language study, martial arts, and brush painting, the program’s popularity stems from another source: its reputation as an excellent place for college-aged Taiwanese Americans to hook up and find romance. Because of this, although it does not take on a ship and is landlocked at a conference center in Taipei, the program is more commonly known by its romantic nickname – the Taiwan Love Boat. Since its inception in the 1960s the Love Boat has served three purposes: as a propaganda tool for the Taiwanese government, as a site for romance for young Taiwanese Americans, and as a means for Taiwanese American parents to insure the preservation of Taiwanese bloodlines. Every summer this unique form of diplomacy gives young Taiwanese Americans a taste of global politics on an intimate scale. By looking at the ways in which a seemingly innocuous program can have wide-ranging political, social, and cultural repercussions, Love Boat: Taiwan explores the intersections of culture, politics, and history. In addition to discussing and screening the film Love Boat: Taiwan, Valerie Soe will also present some of her award-winning short experimental films ince 1986 Valerie Soe’s experimental videos, installations, and documentary films have won dozens of awards, grants, and commissions and have exhibited at film festivals, museums, and galleries worldwide. Her short experimental video, “ALL ORIENTALS LOOK THE SAME,” won Best International Video at the 1987 Festival Internazionale Cinema Giovani, Torino, Italy, First Place, Experimental Category, at the 1987 Sony Corporation Visions of U.S. Festival, and Honorable Mention, Experimental Video, at the 12th Atlanta Film and Video Festival. Her feature documentary, Love Boat: Taiwan, was released in 2019 and won the Audience Award at the Urban Nomad Film Festival In Taipei, Taiwan, and has played to sold-out festival audiences across North America and in Taiwan. Her short experimental documentary, Radical Care: The Auntie Sewing Squad (2020), made in collaboration with Kronos Quartet and the Auntie Sewing Squad, won a Director’s Choice Award at the 2021 Thomas Edison Film Festival and the 2021 Best of Bernal Award at Bernal Heights Outdoor Cinema. Her writing has been published in books and journals including Countervisions: Asian American Film Criticism; The Palgrave Handbook of Asian Cinema; Amerasia Journal, and Asian Cinema, among many others. Soe is the author of the blog beyondasiaphilia.com (recipient of a 2011 Art Writers’ Grant, Creative Capital/Andy Warhol Foundation), which looks at Asian and Asian American art, film, culture, and activism. She is Professor of Asian American Studies at San Francisco State University. |
