This course is an integrated 4-skill (listening, speaking, reading, & writing) curriculum with a focus on reading and writing. Engage in reflection on readings 3. Apply insights gained from readings 4. Orally paraphrase and summarize texts, and reflect on the texts in oral discussion 5. Write complete paragraphs with topic sentences, relevant supporting details, transition words, and concluding sentences 6. Continue to develop listening and speaking skills
Prerequisites *110-2 學期 學校規定恢復實體課程。第一堂課必須到教室! For 110 second semester, the school requires courses to be in-person physical classes. You must come to the classroom for the first day. *第一堂請務必準時到課,否則視為自動放棄修課權利* The teacher will distribute and explain a detailed syllabus on the first class. Unless you have a good reason, please do not be absent. If you are absent without prior notice, you will be automatically removed from the list.
Participate: Learning is a social act and can best be achieved within a community of learners (this class) through engaging, collaborative, and participatory class discussions. Each student is expected to engage in the assigned readings carefully, actively, and critically and come prepared to be an active participant of class discussions. Your individual contributions and serious participation in class activities benefit the entire community of learners (the class). Be an independent learner: You and you alone are responsible for your learning (not the instructor), and you also have an impact on the learning of others. Just going through the motions of completing course assignments at the bare minimum level of effort is not the type of academic work that earns a good grade. Points will be deducted off late work. If you feel you might have difficulty turning in any assignments, please contact me as soon as possible before the due date. Attend all classes: Attendance will be taken in every class (both face to face or online) and the class does not allow any excused absences. That means not coming to class even with a legitimate reason or excuse will result in no attendance and participation marks for that class. Having said that, students do not need to email the teacher with an excuse since no points will be granted for not showing up to class. Take this course only if you are sure that you can dedicate time and effort.
Attendance 15% This part includes attendance. If you miss class, you cannot make up any activities and in class work afterwards. Coming to class or logging in to online class and being an active learner is very important in this course. Participation 20% This includes quizzes, in-class activities, and homework. The more you participate, the higher your score will get. VOD Passport語言學習護照 5% Students must go to the Library Language Center to practice GEPT practice tests or study English related materials. You will get one stamp on your passport after spending 30 minutes in the center. By the end of the semester, you need to have 10 stamps. Mind that you can only get one stamp per day. English Tables and other language center activities can all count as one stamp. If you have questions about stamps, please call (03)571-2121 ext. 52761 GEPT practice test 10% URL: http://easytest.nctu.edu.tw/ ( 學生帳號及密碼 : 學號 ) If you have log in or tech problems, please call (03) 571-2121 ext. 52761 Required writing assignment 10% (a passage of 170-200 words) Students will write 2 paragraph assignments, a minimum of 200 words each.
