Freshman English (II) Course Objectives Freshman English II is an integrated 4-skill (listening, speaking, reading, & writing) language curriculum with a focus on reading and writing. This course will address reading and paragraph writing while supporting the communicative skills addressed in the first semester. In this course, students will: Develop critical reading skills, Engage in reflection on readings, Apply insights gained from readings, Orally paraphrase and summarize texts, and reflect on the texts in oral discussion, Write complete paragraphs with topic sentences, relevant supporting details, transition words, and concluding sentences, Continue to develop listening and speaking skills.
ATTENTION!! You MUST be present on the first day of class or you will be dropped from the course.

Late arrivals and /or unexcused absences will affect your grade. Grading: 1. Classroom participation: 10% 2. Midterm exam: 20% 3. Final exam: 20% (documentary film list will be provided, view approximately one hour documentary film at home, write a critique paper, and use your paper to make a PPT to support your in-class presentation) 4. Language enhancement activities: 15%, including 10% of GEPT two online practice tests and 5% self-study stamps in VOD passport. GEPT online practice (http://140.113.9.17/). 5. Homework: 10% 6. Quiz: 5% 7. Required writing assignment: 10% (2 paragraph assignments, a minimum of 200 words) 8.
