一、 課程概述(請以 3-500 字敘述重點需清晰易懂能表現整體學習概念,另請建議修課系別、限修及進階選課) Science, Technology and Society (STS), or science and technology studies, is an academic approach that explores the intertwining relationships of science and society in every way. It has been rapidly expanding in recent years. Under the umbrella of STS reside many scholarly approaches, such as history and philosophy of science/technology/medicine, sociology and anthropology of science/technology/medicine, among many others. STS is therefore transdisciplinary in the sense that it intends to provide a perspective that is not bound by, but built upon, existing academic disciplines. STS aims to address historical and contemporary issues pertaining to the human condition in modern life; therefore, STS has been treated oftentimes as a must for modern citizens. This course is offered in English and viewed as a core course in the field of Science, Technology and Society. Students who take this course are expected to work in groups and present their perspectives in class. There will be a mid-term and a final exam.
