概述

The course is concerned a wide range of topics with global health importance, especially the neglected health issues, in emergency or resource-limited settings. This course will apply a multidisciplinary approach and the latest research concepts and technologies to tackle these challenges. The class includes a mix of lectures, audio-visual presentations, group discussions, and practical exercises. A basic introduction to health threats, determents and consequence will be provided to student. Students are required to take part in various training exercises and discussions of case studies of selected topics, through an interactive participatory method. Final exam includes a short written proposal and an oral presentation.

Complex health challenges call for a holistic response. How effectively can the NGOs and international agencies address the complexity and emerging challenges in global health while various factors can jeopardize their performance and integrity? What research concept and technology innovations in public health are applicable to resource-limited settings? The primary audience and beneficiary of this course are the health professionals and humanitarian aids workers or the student who plan for an international career. This course is designed for the individual who intend to work with NGOs and international agencies in the humanitarian context. The module covers a solid foundation in theory and practice, as well as the insights of field realities and knowledge generated from first-hand ground exposures. It will also discuss how the works of NGOs and international agencies are influenced by global and local cultural, political and socio-economic realities. The ultimate objective is to equip the course attendants with essential knowledge toward potential challenges and how these challenges can become opportunities for NGOs and international agencies to improve the health and social development.
