This course is intermediate to advanced levels. Students should have completed required courses of epidemiology and biostatistics. SAS codes for analysis will be provided but we will not cover basics of SAS cosing in class. In-class lectures and discussions will be taken place in the afternoons of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for 4 consecutive weeks. Please see schedule for detail. In every afternoon, the class is composed of online 1-hour video of class preview and pre-class homework, and 1-hour in-class discussion of the homework and 1-hour in-class discussion of advanced issues in nutritional epidemiology. In addition to homework, students will have two term projects in teams. Mid-term project is to develop an evidence-based food frequency questionnaire. Final project is a secondary data-analytical project of nutritional epidemiologic study. For both projects, we will provide data set for you to practice. After completing the course, students will acquire abilities to: Understand the values of epidemiology in public health nutrition Be familiar with methodological considerations on dietary and nutritional status assessments Critically read and analyze nutritional epidemiology literature Compare the strengths and limitations of study designs, dietary assessments, and analytical approaches
Course participation, oral presentations and discussion: 30% Lab reports: 45% Final reports: 25% (Due on 7/31) Please follow STROBE-NE format to prepare the report.
