精神醫學與西洋文學

以西洋文學為工具,探討人性的精神層面相關議題,並從西方的歷史、社會及文化等角度,淺介精神醫學的發展,及人類生物與社會環境交錯影響對思想的塑造。 同時也從精神醫學的觀點、解讀西洋文學經典中主人翁的心理活動,探討社會變動之際道德、價值觀、與人性的衝突, 社會對人的精神影響、壓迫、與人面臨各種事件的反射,以窺探人類思想與心靈的奧秘。 本課程挑選著重心理活動描寫的重要西洋文學經典,並選擇不同年齡與性別的主題,例如白朗黛的[簡愛]、狄更斯的[塊肉餘生錄]、歌德的「少年維特的煩腦」、福樓拜的[巴伐利夫人]、賽萬提斯的[唐吉訶德]、杜斯妥也夫斯基的[罪與罰]、史頓達爾的[紅與黑]等聚焦互異的作品以含蓋從幼兒時期、青少年、中年、至老年及男女不同的心理環境,介紹各種精神疾病,包括憂鬱症、躁鬱症、精神分裂、妄想症、人格異常、自虐自殺傾向等精神問題。 Uses western literature as a vehicle to discuss human mental processes, with illustration of psychiatry development through western historical, social, and cultural perspectives. Discusses interaction of human thinking with social environment, by examining the psychological activities of leading roles in each literature, and analyzing the conflict among moral, ethic, values, and human nature. Explores human reaction to social events and social oppression. Chooses important and diverse master pieces, such as Charlotte Bront’s Jane Eyre, Charles Dickens’ David Copperfield, Gustave Flaubert’s Madame Bovary, Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra’s Don Quixote, Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment, Stendhal’s Le Rouge et le Noir, et al. to cover mental disturbances and psychiatric disorders of different age groups and sexes. Presents basic concepts and principles of psychiatric disorders including depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, paranoia, personality disorder, abuse and suicide.
