Key Points 1. This online course teaches different focused approaches to academic essays, preparing students to respond to contextual writing. 2. Practice of short paragraph writing will familiarize students with a range of essays: expository, classification, cause & effect, summary & response, and argumentative essays. 3. Course outcomes include: understanding the structure of the above essays, thesis statement writing, the use of appropriate vocabulary, grammar in context, self-critique
Aims 1. To understand essay structure and writing processes, including prewriting, drafting, revising and editing. 2. Outlining processes for different essays. 3. Building a solid argument with logic and appropriate sources.. 4. Understanding writing style.
midterm: expository or classification essay 500 words: 35% final: argumentative or cause and effect or summary and response essay 500 words: 35% online class participation and writing tasks 30%
