This course aims to enhance students’knowledge of English history and literature from the Anglo-Saxon period to the early eighteenth century. The reading list covers a variety of texts from different literary genres to familiarize students with the major literary conventions and their functions, and to increase students' understanding of the social, historical, cultural, and religious background of the medieval England in which these texts were produced. * * Students are expected to read the text(s) discussed before the class and to actively participate in class discussion. * The syllabus uploaded here is only tentative, and is subject to changes depending on real class progress. A hardcopy of the finalized syllabus will be given in the first class.
Students who wish to take this course must first complete all of the three Literature courses listed below: Freshman English (I): Introduction to Literature Introduction to Western Literature (I) Introduction to Western Literature (II)
