Purpose of the class: Master analytical and numerical techniques of linear algebra, complex numbers, differential equations and other fields of mathematics in order to solve practical problems appearing in various branches of chemistry. The theoretical concepts will be used to solve real problems using MAPLE software. Each student is encouraged to download and install MAPLE from https://ca.nycu.edu.tw/software_list on his/her own WINDOWS computer.

Calculus I/II

1. Tuesday class will be taught using the chalk & blackboard approach. No PPT slides or notes will be distributed. Students are encouraged to take the notes by themselves. 2. Friday class will be taught using MAPLE live sessions.

Each Friday class will start with a 3-5 minutes quiz testing knowledge from the Tuesday class. The average from the 10 best quizzes (out of 13) will contribute 20% to the final score. Each Friday class will be the exercise class, in which students will solve practical problems using MAPLE in real time. The problems to be solved will be announced on Tuesday. The points accumulated by solving the MAPLE problems will add to the score from the quizzes, midterm and final. The midterm exam and final exam will contribute 40% each to the final score.
