概述
本課程為研究方法的課程,宗旨在於探討如何以傳記為社會與文化現象的研究方法以及如何以傳記為研究對象。傳記研究法(Biographical Research)雖然在許多人文社會科學都被運用,但大多不被承認做為一個獨立範疇的研究方法。但隨著人文社會科學研究,從語言轉向到文化轉向、敘述轉向後,近年來也漸漸有傳記轉向(Biographical Turn)的趨勢。雖然各個學科所面對的問題脈絡不同,但自/傳記、生命史、生命敘述、口述歷史,越來越成為回應後現代主義關於大敘述(Grand Narrative)的一種解決方式,也同時提供結構客觀限制與個人行動主體之間的兩難的一種選擇。本課程以社會傳記為題目,試圖呼應1)上述傳記轉向在台灣社會與文化研究的可能性及其困難;2)做為文化研究跨學科的研究方法,同時又保持在不同學科問題脈絡下的異質性與多樣性;3)從下而上(Bottom up)、從中心到邊緣,著重傳記的研究對象從偉人、宗教、政治人物,移轉到社會一般人的社會傳記研究,其間女性主義的影響尤深。本課程也將介紹如此以新興媒體做為傳記研究的素材,如照片影像以及社交媒體等研究的新議題與新方法。我們也將會在學期中進行傳記寫作的實作,邀請大家試著作傳記研究。

單元作業:傳記寫作的實作(The practices of Writing Biographies) 第4週 10/7 研究構想討論I: 問題意識形成與選定傳主 請依不同學科傳記寫作的方法,請自行在網站上搜尋如何撰寫傳記的方法,尤其是英文的網頁,如”How to write a biography”, “How to do a oral history”, “how to do a life history interview”,”How to write the historical biography”參考不版本後,歸納並報告因應不同學科需求,如何寫作一個傳記。 開始蒐集資料。 第7週 10/28 研究構想討論II: 回報蒐集資料的問題 第17週 1/4 期末綜合討論I 第18週 1/11 期末綜合討論II
評分方式
評量方式:出席與討論:40%,期末作業:A.身邊或選定的某一個人或物的傳記;B.請選擇幾本或某一類的傳記進行社會學式或歷史學式的分析,撰寫成一篇文章。C.或運用上課所學在其他主題報告(約八千到一萬字)60%。
