概述

This course elaborates essential issues of how businesses manage across borders. Objectives of this course are: 1. To understand the structure and the essence of the strategic, organizational, and operational challenges confronting executives of businesses when they operate in multiple countries. 2. To know the interplay between the businesses, the countries in which it does business, and the competitive environment in which it operates. 3. Students will learn to develop global strategies and manage across borders.

(1) Class participation is required and will be graded. (2) Regular attendance is essential in this class. It is the students’ responsibility to request permission for the absence prior to the class. Absence without a proper reason will never be accepted. Attendance will be noted; students who miss 3 and more classes without prior permission will be failed. (Sick leaves are legitimate.) (3) Students who cheat will be failed. Plagiarism is considered cheating. (4) We will have mid-term and final exams. In addition, a final group project is required. 6 study groups will be formed, and each group will present in the class and submit a written report together. (One report for each group.) (5) Talking and sleeping in the class is strictly prohibited. (6) Please turn off your cell phone during classes. Cell phone ringing in class will seriously affect your final grading.

Description of Course Details: 1. Homework and Assignments: Several study groups will be formed. Members in each study group will work together to complete the final project, which will be comprised of an in-class presentation and a written report (minimum 1500 English words; 1 report for each group; in MS Word or PDF format). Each group will choose a company (or an industry) and a target country for the company (or the industry) to do business there, and use DIGEST analysis to assess opportunities and risks in that country. Findings will be presented in class and summarized in the written report. More details of the final project will be announced in class in the first week. Please submit your PPT file and written report to the instructing professor via email before the final exam. 2. Exams and Quizzes: Mid-term and final exam. 3. Evaluation and Grading Policy: Mid-term exam: 25%; Final exam: 25%; Class participation:10%; Group in-class presentation: 20%, Group written report: 20%
