The objective of the course is to develop students’ overall English proficiency through exploring topics and issues related to National Basketball Association (NBA) games. Students will also be guided to discuss and critically reflect on NBA games and related issues. By the end of the course, students are expected to: 1. engage in effective and successful group discussion 2. enhance presentation skills 3. acquire skills of understanding spoken and written English NBA-related news
Students of different language proficiency levels (from beginnger to advanced) are welcome to take the course as long as they are motivated enough to explore and discuss issues related to NBA games in English. 選課系統上已正式選上的同學第一堂課請務必準時出席(9/16 Assembly Building 308),第一堂課未出席且沒有在上課前於「學生請假系統」完成請假者,將視同放棄修課權利,其名額將由現場候補者遞補。 Students who signed up for this course must attend the first class (9/16 Assembly Building 308). If you are absent without filing an application on the NYCU Students Leave System, you will be removed from the list. Spots will be open to those who are present and wish to take the course.
Before class preparation: Course handouts and materials will be available on New E3 before each class. Students are expected to preview the materials (e.g., NBA game highlights or news reports; short lecture videos) before coming to each class. Class time: Each class is an interactive one. Students’ active participation in pair or group discussion is expected and will be evaluated.
1. Preview activities/assignments 30% Students are expected to complete all preview activities and assignments before attending each class. The preview activities will include (1) watching lecture videos, (2) watching required online videos, (3) watching self-selected videos, and (4) reading news articles. Please submit your assignments to New E3. 2. Class participation and activities 30% Students will participate in in-class activities and submit their in-class work (e.g., written or oral reports) at the end of each class. 3.Presentations 40% Each student will give two formal presentations on his/her own self-study materials or any topics related to the course materials. Specific guidelines will be given in class.
