This course covers a scenario-based approach to English for nursing dialogues related to different hospital units and care services, aiming to enhance students’ ability of speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English. Meanwhile, clinicians from abroad (i.e. USA, UK and Australia) will be invited to share their working experience on nursing care and often used conversations under different contexts and healthcare system. Site visit to hospital with international clinical service provision will be arranged to give students’ a sense of international work and how to use what they have learned in the clinical settings. Role play sits as an opportunity for student to demonstrate and show case what they have learned in this course and have empirical practice of English nursing conversations. Additionally, this course would serve as a pre-condition and booster for those who aim to study, working or attending international exchange programs. Course Objectives After completing this module, the students should be able to, 1. Describe the core value of nursing practice and clinical communication by using scenario-based approach in English 2. Describe the key elements of clinical nursing communication in routine care 3. Describe key vocabularies of medical and nursing care terms by using clinical scenario as example 4. Reflect what the students have learned and demonstrate critical thinking and provide instructive comments on clinician-patient communication 5. Develop English speaking, writing, listening and reading skills on nursing care 6. Develop skills on reading medical documents such as case note and journal articles
