概述
近年來各式各樣的全球史已經蔚為風潮,但具有突破性意義的「科技全球史」(The Global History of science and Technology ) 卻尚在孕育之中,這個看似落後的處境透顯出一個有著深刻理論意義的問題:在多年來眾多挑戰「歐洲中心」、「科學革命」、「現代科學」的學術努力之後,我們是否已經擁有一個可以融入歐洲之外的歷史經驗的新圖像?現代東亞科技的歷史經驗可以為這個「科技全球史」的新圖像做出什麼貢獻? 在本課程中,我們將思考那些基本架構使得東亞科技的經驗似乎只是「地方性的個案與特例」,(五四「賽先生」就是一個中國史之外的學者都無法關聯的「特例」),探討一系列致力於將東亞科技的歷史經驗提升至具有世界史意義的努力,並從而探索「科技全球史」可能的形貌,這種努力將能幫助我們以新的眼光來研究與欣賞眼前的在地科技史。
評分方式
[1] 課堂報告: 每次一位同學報告十五分鐘,需提供一至二頁的報告摘要,幫助同學迅速掌握全文核心論點與論文結構。 [2] 討論問題:非負責報告的同學每週就閱讀內容提出一至兩個問題或心得,寫成一頁的討論題綱,在上課前e-mail 給全班。 計分方式:課堂報告 40%,討論問題 40%,課堂討論 20%
