Based on the textbook Reading the World: Ideas That Matter, this course introduces key concepts in topics such as the arts, education, human nature, science, politics, society, and ethics in English. Students are challenged to reflect on the chosen topics in an all-English environment. Through the reading and discussion of canonical and relevant writings and images on issues and topics in the liberal studies, the course achieves three goals for students: first, to develop critical thinking skills; second, to engage with culturally significant topics; and lastly, to think and express complex ideas in a sophisticated manner.
