"Advancing English" is designed to equip students with the English language skills necessary to undertake their future coursework in English. Through engagement with a variety of current- events topics and related exercises in listening/ reading and speaking, students will strategies for becoming active readers and listeners and become more fluent and accurate in their oral and written English communication.

Students enrolled in this course should be high-intermediate learners of English. “Advancing English” focuses on topics relevant to students’ lives and integrates as many authentic texts as possible into the syllabus (audio, visual and print). It provides enough scaffolding in vocabulary and grammar for students to fully integrate and actively discuss those topics.
