Last, students will be able to explain major intercultural communication perspectives in Chinese ●Course Organization: This semester, we will cover nine lessons. We will spend one large class period, one group class period, and one individual class period on each lesson. ●Large Class Format: This class meets once a week for a duration of 100 minutes. Each class period will focus on one or more of the following major tasks: studying vocabulary & grammar, discussion, listening practice, analyzing texts, and oral performance. We may incorporate other activities time and materials available. To prepare, students will be required to study vocabulary, listen to a recording, preview the class materials, and prepare for vocabulary and comprehension quizzes. ●Group Class Format: This class meets once a week after the large class for a duration of 100 minutes. The first 50 minutes will be devoted to discussing the assigned materials from the large class. The last 50 minutes will be devoted to listening practice. To prepare, students will be required to post one question on the discussion board related to the assigned material before the large class. In addition, students will be required to read other students’ questions to prepare for the discussion. ●Individual Class Format: This class meets once a week for a duration of 50 minutes. Students will have in-depth discussions related to the assigned materials with their instructor. To prepare, students must write an outline for and/or answer the assigned question(s) 24 hours before the class. ●Attendance and Performance Policy: 1. Arriving 10 minutes late for class or leaving 10 minutes before the class ends will be counted as an absence 3. Three (3) absences for any reason from any class will receive a written warning and a meeting with the Taiwan Center will be required 4. Five (5) absences for any reason from any class will result in a zero for attendance and participation for that class (30%) 5.
