At the end of this course, the students are expected to develop the following skills and abilities: 1. Applications of computer-aided methods to analyze and design a new structure and its foundation against natural hazards including typhoons and earthquakes. 2. Preparation of a professional engineering design report. 3. Plotting the building plans, structural design plans, foundation plans. 4. Preparation of construction method statements, scheduling, and a management plan. 5. Professional presentation (in forms of oral, written, and physical models) of the proposed design and construction plans to clients.

Each 9-10 students will form a group and will be guided by the instructor and teaching assistants to complete one of the following design project: design a low-carbon building located on a slope
