This course provides the students the theoretical framework to explore possible UX research topics among peoples, society, and digital technologies. It provides an overview of theories and approaches to the transdisciplinary concept of design, spanning multiple disciplines and types of design outputs with a focus on technology. Student work will be focused on theoretical and practical outcomes, with two main learning goals: 1) building upon and critiquing theories, methods, and processes of design in their original research; and 2) generating an awareness and representation of their personal design philosophy.
No prerequisite courses are required. Students who are enthusiastic for HCI research or are seriously consider his/her future career development in UX design professionals are especially welcome and are encouraged to consider this course.
This is a research-based class, students will conduct a formal research paper during this semester. By applying related theoretical frameworks from the class readings, you can either work alone or work as team to explore research issues from one of the three topics below: (1) NYCU AR App (2) 360 Virtual Campus Information Service Website (3) Virtual Communication in the Oculus VR Environment NOTE: The format of final term paper will be the full-paper submission of 2023 CHI, 2023 TAICHI, or other HCI related Conferences
The course requirements include (1) “One Question A Week” (10%) : By individual (2) Research Prospectus (10%) : By individual or By team (3) Mid-term research proposal (30%) : By individual or By team (4) Design philosophy statement and Diagram (10%) : By individual (5) Final term paper: Research Paper Report and Presentation (40%) : By individual or By team
