1. Introduction to physics of Weyl semi – metals both low dimensional like 1D chains and graphene in 2D to 3D WS discovered this year. 2. Notion of the Dirac point in 2D, 3D systems and physical effects caused by the singularity: chirality. 3. Introduction to topological insulators: spin – orbit coupling creates surface states called in 1D “Ma-jorana”, in 2D edge channels and in 3D Weyl surfaces. 4. New physical phenomena in Weyl semi – metals include finite ballistic conductivity, relativistic Quan-tum Hall effect, and many others.

學期作業、Two options. a. Short presentation about a research work (15 mins) before Jan. 1. Students can either pick up one paper from the list or other recent paper (subject to approval). b. Do exercises (4 points) and either present the solutions in class or submit before Jan. 10. 考試 - no exams
