The objective of this course is to provide a framework of innovation and product management. This course elaborates how a firm can stay competitive by means of adequate innovation and product development, coupled with the up-to-date and accessible discussion of cases in this area, as well as a wealth of examples and illustrations.
High motivation and high interest in business strategy and innovation
• Class participation is required and will be graded. • Regular attendance is essential in this class. It is the student’s responsibility to request permission for the absence prior to the class. Absence without a proper reason will never be accepted. Attendance will be noted; students who miss 3 and more classes without prior permission will be failed. • Students who cheat will be failed. Plagiarism is considered cheating. • Talking and sleeping in the class is strictly prohibited. • Please turn off your cell phone during classes.
1. Final project Several study groups will be formed. Each group will pick up a company from the following lists: (1) The Global Climate Tech Unicorns (https://www.holoniq.com/climatetech-unicorns); or (2) The 20 Surging Climate Tech Startups (2023) (https://explodingtopics.com/blog/climate-tech-startups). Please introduce the company to the class as if you are working for the company and intend to pitch to potential investors. Note that those companies are all climate tech startups. Investors commit capital with the expectation of receiving financial returns, as well as mitigating the impact of climate change. After all presentations by different groups, all students will vote to select a “most promising company”, based on the company's potential of alleviating the impact of climate change and generating financial returns. All members of the winning group will be rewarded with small gifts. 2. Exams Mid-term + final 3. Grading policy Mid-term 30%; final 30%; group presentation 30%: class-participation 10%
