概述

Supply Chain Management (SCM) is concerned with designing, planning and controlling the processes that produce and deliver everything we consume. The area covers processes for physical products (e.g., clothes and consumer electronics), commodities (e.g., coal and oil) and services (e.g., transportation, hospitality and entertainment). Having a great strategy is not enough, it needs to be supported by great execution, in order to deliver consistently on the promises done to customers. And in a world that is becoming more and more volatile and therefore less and less predictable, superior execution becomes increasingly critical to sustainable business success. This course is designed to provide concepts, models and methods that are important for the design, control, operation, and management of global supply chains in a dynamic world. The course introduces frameworks and approaches that can be used to describe and analyze related operations and supply chain strategies. The topical coverage reflects the desire to highlight those strategic operations and supply chain aspects that are critical to the success of a business. There are three distinct, but equally relevant dimensions of operations and supply chain management: the business dimension, the technical dimension and the leadership dimension. While basic operations and supply chain concepts are relatively easier to understand, it is not that easy to practice soft skills nor to “experience” the results of plan execution. In this course, a business simulation game called The Fresh Connection will be used as a tool to let students operate a simulated company under dynamic environment to experience what the consequences of various decisions made.
