Course content: (1) Conceptual perspective for origin of materials behavior, including structures, properties, and performance interrelationships, (2) structure of crystalline solids, (3) defects, diffusion, mechanical properties, and phase diagrams for metallic, ceramic, polymeric, and electronic materials, (4) the correlation of atomic structure, crystal structure and microstructure of solids with physical and chemical properties of engineering significance. Course objectives: The students will learn the terminology and fundamental principles of materials structure and their related properties.
