教學方式

瞭解生物的遺傳變異及其調節的分子機制始終是生命科學的一個重要課題,也是現代生物學研究的一個主軸。生命科學系的課程安排一向不乏生物遺傳學及其相關的課程訓練,但僅限於以課堂上論述演講的課程為主,較少有讓學生直接上手實作的方法做學習的規劃。本課程以酵母菌生物模式為範疇,利用實驗設計的教學方法,從基本的孟德爾遺傳定律到現代合成生物學的應用都能夠實際演練一遍,等於是以另類的實作方式讓學生重新理解生物遺傳作用的原理。Mendelian inheritance has widely been considered as a fundamental genetics concept in the modern biology classroom. With a growing awareness that contemporary genetics is broader in content, we aim to implement instructional techniques based on educational research on active learning and backward design. The course will introduce students to molecular genetics and synthetic biology within the context of semester-long research projects in Mendel’s principles. Each course project includes both theoretical background material as well as detailed yeast experimental procedures. All of the experiments have been thoroughly tested with a senior group of students serving roles as teaching assistants. Future courses can benefit from wider adoption of this project, more emphasis on the biological design of curricula as a science, and new methods of assessing student development on research career.
