Course descriptions and objectives: (1) The purpose of this class is to encourage students to listen, to read, to speak and to write in English on various topics in sciences. (2) We will use YouTube films, word and PDF files, each of us need to do our homework before we come to class so that we know what we are going to discuss in the class. (3) This is an in person/online class, we will use Google meet, so you can use your cellular phone, your computer or your iPad to join our class discussion. Make sure that your camera and microphone is on so that we can see you and hear you. (4) The class is designed to give you a chance to explore your potential, you need to try to speak up, overcome your fear of speaking in English. No one can help you if you do not try. (5) Respect is one thing we need to do in this class. Regardless of our religion, political party preference, sex or gender, we will have the same right to speak. When one of us is talking, show respect to the speaker by not interfere or interrupt him/her, each one of us is entitled to our own opinion. You can share your point of view when it is your turn. (6) Each class is 100 minutes and will be separated into 4 sections (25 minutes/section). There will be a 5 minute break between each section. We may show some short videos during the class to stimulate discussion, if you need to go to the bathroom or get something to eat or drink, just come back to class ASAP. Each time when one talks, there is a limit of 5 minutes, we will remind you around 4 minutes so that you can wrap it up in one minute. This way other students can have a chance to talk. (7) It is okay if you had a bad day and you don't feel like talking or let others to see your sad face. However, we do have a suggestion for you to consider, one thing you can do is to "fake it", just pretend you had a wonderful day and you're in a good mood and join our discussion. If you can do that, you will get extra credits because "practice makes perfect." Who knows, maybe one day you will become a famous actor/actress because you discovered your potential in this class.
To improve students’ English communication and discuss up-to-date development in pharmacological sciences. The google meet for online students and teachers at 18:30-20:20 Tuesday: https://classroom.google.com/c/NjE3OTk2NDgyODk4?cjc=ono2nij
There will be no midterm or final test. Your participation in the class will determine your final score. Each student needs to raise at least one question in English and submit to teacher so that we can discuss in the class. We will appreciate a short paragraph of feedback on the class in midterm. It is okay if you did not learn anything, just write it down and let the teachers know why you didn't learn anything so that we can make improvement next time.
