The research seminar for the Institute of Philosophy of Mind and Cognition (IPMC) and the Philosophy, Intelligence, Brain, and Mind Cross-Disciplinary Program (PIBM) invites researchers based both in Taiwan and abroad to present current work of relevance to the areas of focus of the institute. It also offers students the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the latest work in the relevant areas, and to interact with those who produce it.

Students enrolled in the course will: * Practice listening to presentations to absorb unfamiliar content. * Learn how to conduct academic discussions during the question-and-answer sessions that follow academic presentations. * Learn how to write a critical review of an academic presentation.
Critical reviews: 16% each, 80% total * Students will select five of the presentations and write a critical review of each of these five presentations. * Each critical review should be between 500 and 1,000 words in English. * Each critical review should briefly summarize the content of the presentation and raise one or two questions about the presentation. * Each critical review is due two weeks after the presentation that it is about. Attendance and participation: 20% * 10%: Each student is required to ask at least three questions during the question-and-answer session of three different presentations (i.e., one question per presentation for three presentations). * 10%: Students are permitted one unexcused absence per semester, which will not affect their grade for the course. If a student has more than one unexcused absence, they will lose all of their credit for this 10% of their grade. Students are also permitted to show up late to one course meeting per semester without an excuse. If a student is more than five minutes late for another course meeting after this, they will lose half of their credit for this 10% of their grade.
