概述

在視覺文化研究領域中,工藝設計的歷史與其物質性(materiality)逐漸成為學者關注的焦點之一。許多過往被認為屬於裝飾藝術而常被排除於藝術史研究的媒材形式(例如:家具、壁紙、陶瓷、織品...),事實上承載了不同文化情境下的歷史意涵。本課程首先探究藝術史、視覺文化與物質研究等領域的互動交流,接著從十六世紀歐洲裝飾藝術的發展開始,逐步探討文化認同、東西交流、性別意識、殖民與工藝創作、工藝教育等議題,最後以1970年代的工業設計為結束點。藉由這些議題探討,帶領學生思考視覺研究的領域與方法,並且省思工藝設計中的各種政治性(politics)。

先修科目

本課程為視覺文化研究所專題課程,修課學生需為研究所以上方可選修。

教學方式

本課程閱讀資料以英文學術著作為主,輔以中文著作。每週均有指定閱讀範圍,同學需於課前閱讀完畢,於課堂積極參與討論,以訓練表達與詮釋技巧。此外,同學將藉由撰寫期中與期末報告,實際演練課堂習得之相關方法理論,並培養獨立學術研究的能力。

評分方式

課堂口頭報告:15% 課堂參與討論:15% 期中書面報告(3000字以上,含註釋及參考書目):20% 期中與期末口頭報告:10% 期末書面報告(7000字以上,含註釋及參考書目):40% *本課程書面報告為一萬字文章(期中、期末合計)一篇,主題任選,但需與本課程主題相關。期中口頭報告為大綱說明,期末口頭報告則需呈現更為完整之分析內容。
