Purpose This course offers basic techniques and approaches for the analysis of engineering and project economics. It prepares for the students to learn more advanced courses in project evaluation, project finance, corporate finance, and financial management. Especially, this course paves the ways for students to understand the various new funding approaches for engineering, procurement, and construction projects, such as the build-operate-transfer model, private finance initiatives, and other project finance methods. New funding approaches are key to meet the needs for the current infrastructure initiatives around the world. Outline 1. Time is money 2. Debt management 3. Valuation of stocks and bonds 4. Rate of return analysis 5. Present-value analysis 6. Depreciation 7. After-tax cash flow analysis 8. An introduction to project evaluation 9. Financial statements revisited 10.
