The aim of this course is to help student to understand the background knowledge of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and their applications in the brain science research through lectures. This course will also cover the fundamentals of the data analysis, including the data preprocessing, statistical analysis and group analysis. It also compares the model-based methods to the data-driven ones to fit the data analysis requirements in different experimental designs. Students are required to complete the assigned homework, read and present self-selected journal articles, and more importantly, design and conduct an fMRI experiment accordingly and analyze the fMRI data collected from the experiment. At the end of this course, the students should have hand-on experience in designing and conducting an fMRI experiment as well as analyzing the fMRI data from a single-subject session.
