Introduction to Electrodynamics (ED). Few theories have been as formative for the development of modern science as classical electrodynamics. Formulated in the late 1800’s and refined in the early 1900’s to this day it forms the solid basis of most day-to-day physics phenomena we observe and use in our technologies. In this course we will study ED from its inception in Maxwell’s equations and develop it towards its covariant formulation. Along the way we will encounter and solve problems in Electro-/Magnetostatics, Radiation Theory, ED in Matter, Electromagnetic Waves and the Lagrangian formulation of classical field theories.
Undergraduate mechanics and electrodynamics, knowledge of Lagrangian mechanics is useful
Course will be held in English, access to the internet via computer is beneficial
