This course aims to advance students’ listening and speaking skills. Students will further develop listening skills (e.g., identifying main ideas, details, making inferences, and note-taking) through less simplified and authentic listening materials. Students will also develop discussion skills through a variety of interactive activities. By the end of the course, students will learn to: 1. comprehend listening materials which cover more specialized or sophisticated topics, 2. identify and analyze points of view, arguments, or implicit information in the listening material , 3. lead and participate in effective group discussions and deliver oral presentations.
選課系統上已正式選上的同學第一堂課請務必準時出席,第一堂課未出席且沒有在上課前於「學生請假系統」完成請假者,將視同放棄修課權利,其名額將由現場候補者遞補。 Students who signed up for this course must attend the first class. If you are absent without filing an application on the NYCU Students Leave System, you will be removed from the list. Spots will be open to those who are present and wish to take the course.
1. Preview activities/assignments 15% Students are expected to complete all preview activities and assignments before attending each class. The preview activities will include (1) watching instructional videos on listening strategies, (2) watching required online videos, and (3) watching self-selected videos. The preview assignments will include completing worksheets about the videos and weekly learning logs. 2. In-class quizzes 20% Students will take an in-class quiz every week. The quiz aims to assess students’ understanding of the preview videos. 3. In-class discussion and participation 15% Students are expected to actively participate in group/pair discussion. Participation will be observed and evaluated. 4. Midterm & final exams 30% 5. Presentations 20% Each student will give two formal presentations during the semester. Specific guidelines will be given in class.
