Cold plasma is a type of ionized gas, and has a high difference between the electron temperature, ions temperature and gas temperature. This means that cold plasma is manifesting outside the thermodynamically equilibrium. Depending on several plasma parameters like energy input, pressure, working gas composition, addition of primer substances, etc., as well as the nature of the substrate, a variety of chemical reaction-based interactions with materials can be enhanced or even enabled by plasma application. Conventionally, these interactions are etching, thin film deposition, chemical and/or physical surface modification, activation or functionalization. The cold atmospheric pressure plasma (CAPP) is developed on the base of the created reactive species which has remarkable electrochemical reactivity. CAPP’s applications are very diverse and in a continuous development, starting with the pollutant treatment from the air or from solutions, continuing with the treatment of the plastic or metallic surface up to the bio-medical applications developed in the last few years. Recently, CAPP has extended its applications much further into biomedical fields, including: - The treatment of the implant materials in order to assure the bio-compatibility with human tissue; - Bio-decontamination and sterilization; - Promotion of healthier environment; -The living tissues treatment in order to facilitate the healing of some chronic wounds, coagulation, some cancer forms, etc. Eventually, this course is intended to make students understand: 1. The fundamental theories of cold plasma. 2. The generation and sustaining of cold plasma, under low pressure and atmospheric pressure. 3. Plasma physics and chemistry. 4. The applications of plasmas in various industries. 5. Plasma applications in bio-medical field. 6. Development and recent progress of plasma medicine
