This course is to introduce signal transduction pathways through membrane-bound receptors that mediate many extracellular signals and regulate cellular responses. These membrane-bound receptors including G-protein-coupled receptors, enzyme-linked receptors and ion channels, are important for regulation of some diseases and serve as potential drug targets. At present, more than 50% of marketed drugs are targeted to membrane-bound receptors. The course contents include two parts: (I) Introduction of membrane-bound receptors: structures, functions and signaling pathways; (II) membrane-bound receptors and diseases: how receptors regulate diseases and what are molecular mechanisms. It also covers recent application of receptors in pharmacology and clinical medicine.
