There is no shortage of technical accounts of algorithm, but the social processes of how they are built and the consequences of them being incorporated into different worlds deserve equal if not more attention. Accordingly, the course focuses on social scientific accounts of algorithms and ways to reconsider their operation in contemporary society. It is divided into two parts: the first half explores social practices of algorithm development and the second half algorithms and ethics.
Understanding the social processes of how they are built and critically reflecting upon the consequences of them being incorporated into different worlds.
